Listed Building record TR 15 NW 729 - 8 PALACE STREET
Summary
Grade II* listed building. No 8 Palace St A jettied house, said to have been built around 1250 for the Rector of the Church of St Alphege. The house was originally of two storeys but a third jettied storey was added in the second half of the 17th century. The present facade, although of medieval date, was added in 1888, coming from a medieval building elsewhere in Canterbury. It is timber-framed with plaster infill with a roof covering of old tiles. There are exposed joists and finely moulded bressumers with scrollwork and coil moulding. Windows are continuous lancets with leaded lights. The side elevation is tile hung with a gable and has two tiny lancets.
