A heritage assessment of the building was carried out in 2016; this report describes the building as follows: "The double gabled jettied form of the building tends to suggest that the building originally dates from the latter half of the C17th and this is a typical town house form for buildings of that era. As is usual in Canterbury, the façade is more recent, refaced in the very late c18th with mathematical tiling to the upper gables, a rendered 1st floor and with early c19th canted bay windows and casements to the gables, all an effort to create a more fashionable classical façade. The rear façade of the building is however un-jettied and built in brick and it would seem that this elevation was completely reconstructed at same time that the front was remodelled" (from the original report, 2).
The report also discussed d a 19th century rear extension which was demolished in the late 20th century and rebuilt to form part of the existing building. The façade of the building comprises a Victorian shopfront, as the structure was used as a retail shop during the 19th century. (2)
