Full Description

Description from record TR 15 NW 344:
No 10 Whitehorse Lane, Cherry Tree Inn [TR14835783 - sited from OS 1/1250 1974]. Grade II. A 17th century timber-framed building refaced in brick. (1) Possibly a 16th century timber-framed building. (2)

The Canterbury UAD states that this inn was previously ass Charringtons now a Free House.

What is now the Kentish Cricketers was the Cherry Tree in the 1692 Licensing List and 6 soldiers were listed for the inn in the Billeting List of 1693.

The present Cherry Tree was almost certainly the Fleur de Lis Tap and the name changed to Cherry Tree in 1949.

In 1863 the licence was transferred from Zachariah Prentice to Edward Smith and this was almost certainly the first separate licence from the Fleur de Lis. This is obviously a very old building. (3)
