1. 944 WESTGATE GROVE (North Side)
No 10 (Stour cottage) (Formerly listed as TR 1458 SE 2/124 No 4 3.12.49.

2. Originally part of the old Cock Inn. A C16 timber-framed building. 3 storeys and gable plastered. Renewed tiled roof. Gable front with bargeboards. 1 casement. Overhang, 1st floor has a 3 light mullioned and transomed bay and a modern doorcase.
Nos 2 to 14 (even) form a group.

Nos 2,4,6,8 and 10 Westgate Grove, originally parts of the Cock Inn [TR 14545808 sited from HHR map]. Grade II. No 2 16thc timber-framed, refaced early 19thc. Nos 4 and 6 16thc timber-framed, now plastered over. No 8 16thc timber-framed. No 10 16thc timber-framed. (1) No 2 Westgate Grove. 19th century front to earlier timber-framed building. Nos 4 and 6 Westgate Grove. 16th century timber-framed building. No 8 Westgate Grove. Medieval timber-framed building, altered in the 17th century. No 10 Westgate Grove. Medieval timber-framed building, altered in the 17th century. (2)

Formerly part of the Cock Tavern.
Mentioned on the 1692 Licensing List and the billieting list awarded the inn 10 soldiers.

Licensing lists and directories name the following as innkeeprs;
1838 William Small (address given as Cock Lane)
1840 William Small
1847 William Small (adress given as Westgate Court and 'Cock without Westgate')

Not known when it closed but is now private residence, once home to Alderman James.
