The Canterbury UAD states that this was a Fremlins/Whitbread inn called The Man of Kent.

In the 17th century there were two cottages just outside the city walls, built against the wall and hard by the former Worthgate, one of the gateways into the City. An inn was established called The Bull and as such was on the Licensing List of 1692 and also in the Billeting List of 1693 for 2 soldiers.

These cottages were extended in the 19th century to form an 'L' shaped building and changed its name to the 'Man of Kent' Public House, its first licence being issued in 1867, the licensee being Edward Yeoman who remained licensee until 1888 when Edward Parker replaced him. It was situated next to No 10 Worthgate Place with the entrance to Dane John immediately adjacent.

The last innkeepers were Mr & Mrs S Roalf who had kept Man of Kent for 14 years until the licence was suspended following compulsory acquisition in May 1968. In April of that year the name had been transferred to the Station Hotel in order the preserve the name. The Man of Kent closed in 1968 and was partially demolished, the remainder was converted into a town house.
