- II
Large villa. Built c1850 by Robert Palmer Browne for Thomas Henry Mackay. Italianate style. Stuccoed with hipped slate roof and 9 tall stuccoed chimneystacks. Main house is of 2 storeys and semi-basement with L-shaped service wing, formerly 2 storeys but now reduced in height to one. North or entrance front of 3 bays, the central projecting with massive porte-cochere. Bracket eaves cornice. Sashes with verticals only in moulded architraves with ears and feet, the central lst floor window tripartite and the ground floor windows having cornices and panelled aprons beneath attached to plinth. Porte-cochere has deep modillion cornice with corner brackets and keystone with carved hand grasping dagger. To right is section of one bay with round-headed window. Garden front has 6 windows, including 3 in full-height canted bay to right and section to left has one casement window. Original fittings include well staircase with anthemion motif balusters and column principals in cast iron, elaborate cornices, doorcases with architraves including paterae and fireplaces.
