Summary

In 1935 a polished flint axe was found in the garden of Parish Well, Burham House. The name "Parish well" or "Parish Well Villa" went out of use in 1956 when the village of Burham was renumbered. The present whereabouts of the axe is unknown.

Full Description

[TQ 727623] Polished flint axe found in the garden of Parish Well, Burham House, Burham, in April 1935. (1) [TQ 7272 6238] The name 'Parish well' or 'Parish Well Villa' went out of use in 1956 when the village of Burham was renumbered. It is now known as No. 332 Rochester Road, Burham. Mr. Twort, the owner, formerly of Street Farm (opposite) has no recollection of the find and the present occupier came in 1936. The occupier at the time of the find was a Mrs. Le. Grove; her present whereabouts and that of the axe are unknown. (2)
