In 1847 the directory listed Susan Carey as innkeeper and in 1861 it was James Nicholls. He was still there in 1865. The inn was sometimes called King William IV.
The first licence issued to an inn called William IV in North lane was probaly in 1834 following the death in 1830 of George IV and the accession of William IV.
Joseph Brett was licence holder in 1882; Mr A Scoones in 1888 and George Pilbeam in 1897/98/1900. The Inn closed in 1918.
