Summary

Roman pottery was discovered in a grave in Lees Chalk Pit, Burham at the end of the 19th century. A two handled buff cinerary urn contained cremated remains, a dark grey or black patera and sherds of a rough cast pot. Durobrivian ware and a Samian patera 35/36 with a leaf pattern were recorded. The find was donated to Maidstone Museum by E L Betts. Two Roman urns found in a chalk pit at Burham were purchased for Maidstone Museum in about 1870.
