The Canterbury UAD states that this is a Rigden/Fremlin/Whitbread inn.

This was a licensed house in 1784 with Mr Goodban as innkeeper and in 1803 William Pilsher paid to the brewer:
Rent £13. 0. 0.
Land tax 17. 0.
The Kentish Gazette reported on 17th September 1844:

'To let. A most desirable Public House with Pleasure gardens, ground etc. Rent £19. 19. 0 per annum. Apply Mr Pebardy, Two Sawyers, Ivy Lane, Canterbury'.

Mr Enderby's papers mention 10 named inns in Ivy Lane throughout the last 300 years. (1-2)

Pits at the rear of the building are thought to contain iron slag potentially dating from the Anglo-Saxon/medieval periods. These features/finds were highlighted by the desk based assessment of a nearby property. (3)
