Findspot record TQ 76 SW 48 - Romano-British pottery and Roman coins found in Wouldham
Summary
Romano-British pottery and Roman coins were found in the topsoil during scrub clearance on the summit of the North Downs ridge in Wouldham parish in 1982. The coins were four Constantinian coins. Two of the coins were of fourth century date. One was VBRS ROMA AD 330-337 but with no mint mark. Another was a commemorative coin of Helena, mother of Constantine IAD 337-341 and was probably minted at Trier.Their discovery led to the excavation of the Bronze Age barrow known as Hill Road Barrow(TQ 76 SW 47).
The pottery included late colour-coated wares, white slipped wares and red mortaria, all well established types of the third and fourth centuries.
