Summary

Grade II listed building. Main construction periods 1600 to 1699 Seventeenth century timber-framed building of three storeys plastered, the ground floor probably underbuilt. Tiled roof with three small gables. Three casement or sliding windows. Three doorcases with flat wooden weatherhoods on brackets. Built in the later 17th century probably as speculative housing and later than the range Nos. 1- 3 Overy Street. The buildings have had a number of uses including a beer house, tea room and resturant and shops. Derelict in the 1990's it was redeveloped in 2000 as a hotel.

Nos 1 to 17 (odd) form a group.

Description from record TQ 57 SW 217:
Seventeenth century timber-framed building of three storeys plastered, the ground floor probably underbuilt. Tiled roof with three small gables. Three casement or sliding windows. Three doorcases with flat wooden weatherhoods on brackets. Built in the later 17th century probably as speculative housing and later than the range 1- 3. The buildings have had a number of uses including a beer house, tea room and resturant and shops. Derelict in the 1990's it was redeveloped in 2000 as a hotel.

At the rear of Nos. 5 - 9 two test pits were dug which uncovered a flint cobble surface and a possible well.

During the overall work a total of 60 clay pipe bowls were found. The majority dated to the 19th century and the adjacent pipe manufacturer's at the Pipe House (TQ 57 SW 162). Sixteen bowls could be dated to the 17th and 18th centuries (2)
