989/4/10011 Flint walled Garden Tunnel
at Ingress Abbey
II
Garden tunnel. Early to mid C19, altered in 1940s. Flint walls topped by garden bond brickwork and brick round-headed ceiling, approx 75 to 100 feet in length. It was part of a garden walk in the grounds of Ingress Abbey which passed through one side of a large chalk outcrop to the other, passing on to view other garden features. During the Second World War the tunnel was blocked off at the western end and had a concrete blast guard added at the eastern end to act as an air raid shelter.
