ASH CHEQUER LANE TR 2858 (west side) 10/1 The Chequer Inn 13.10.52 GV II
House, now public house. Circa. 1500: Timber framed and close studded with plaster infill, underbuilt in part with painted brick and part rendered. Wealden plan of 4 framed bays. Two storeys and basement on high plinth with moulded bressumers to jettied wings of left and right. Wide eaves overhanging whole front on brackets. Hipped roof with gablets and stacks projecting and offset at end left and end right. Double wooden casements to left and 2 wooden casements to right with 2-light mullioned window to centre left on first floor and 5 light transomed and mullioned window to left, tripartite glazing bar sash and casement to centre left and C20 five light transomed and qlazing bar sash to centre, 2-light mullioned window to centre right and glazing bar sash to right on ground floor. Half glazed door with rectangular fanlight in left wing with 3 steps and plain iron rails. Basement opening to left. Half-glazed door in left return. Interior: Full frame visible.
