Full Description

Five Palaeolithic hand axes were found by a field study group of St. George's School, Gravesend and by R. Hutchings during searches on the foreshore between Cliffe Creek, TQ 708 770, and Lower Hope Point, TQ 714 788, in the 1960-70's. Hutchings suggests that the handaxes originated in deposits brought from the nearby quarry at TQ 7255 7640 during sea-walling works between 1793 and 1830 (1)
