The following text is from the original listed building designation:
ALFRED SQUARE 1. 1035 (North Side) Nos 8a and 8b TR 3753 SE 2/173 II GV 2. Mid C19. 3 storeys and basement stuccoed. Roof has 2 hips. 3 sashes having vertical glazing bars only and keystones. The ground floor has 2 shop fronts and a central doorcase with cornice having modillions, 2 console brackets and central grotesque mask. Nos 1 to 8b (consec) form a group with No 1 Sandown Road.
