Listed Building record TR 24 SE 7 - STONE MARKING THE SITE OF ST MARY'S CHURCH
Summary
Site of church in the former parish of Poulton, mentioned in Domesday and standing in 1523. A stone, probably erected by Sir Thomas Edolph circa 1645, marks the site. Human bone was found when trenching for a water main before 1939, and a trial excavation in 1954 2m west of the stone found human remains lying east-west and coffin nails, but no evidence of building.
