The following text is from the original listed building designation:
EASTRY THE CROSS TR 3054 (west side) 12/126 The Riding Habit (formerly listed as 11.10.63 The Cross Farmhouse) and wall attached GV II
House, now house and shop. C15. Timber framed and rendered with applied timber arcading, and part underbuilt with red brick. Plain tiled roof. Wealden hall house plan. Two storeys and basement on plinth with central 2 bays recessed on ground floor and jettied. Boxed eaves to hipped roof with stack to left forward of ridge. Irregular fenestration of 3 wooden casements on first floor,with plate glass shop windows to left and centre left on ground floor, with glazed door to centre left and 4 light mullioned window with arched heads . Early C18 panelled door at head of flight of 3 steps to right. Basement openings to centre. Wall to right, C17, of red brick in irregular bond on flint base at right. About 5 feet high, extending about 15 yards right along road.
