The following text is from the original listed building designation:
GOODNESTONE CHILLENDEN TR 25 SE 3/63 The Griffin's Head Inn 13.10.52 GV II Public house. C15. Timber framed and exposed close studding with roughcast infill, the left return elevation of roughcast brickwork. Plain tiled roof. Wealden hall house plan of 4 framed bays. Two storeys and basement with rubble and brick base, with end left and right wings jettied on dragon posts. Flying wall plate over recessed centre with arched brace to right, and central cantilevered brace. Hipped roof with central stack cluster and gable to left and stack to right. Two wooden casements on first floor and horizontally sliding glazing bar sash to left, and 2 wooden casements on ground floor. Remains of mullioned hall window to centre left, and basement opening to right. Door of 6 panels to left and half-glazed door to right. Timber framed outshot to end right. Rear elevation with large panel framing. Interior: full frame visible.
