Monument record TQ 77 SE 29 - Field boundary visible as a soilmark, Broad Street, Hoo St. Werburgh
Summary
Field boundaries of uncertain date, located between Chattenden and Hoo St Werburgh, are visible as cropmarks and very slight earthworks on aerial photographs and Lidar imagery and have been mapped as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The field boundaries are defined by perpendicular linear banks covering a total area of about 54 hectares. Many of the banks coincide with field boundaries shown on Ordnance Survey maps of 1870 and 1895, suggesting a Medieval or Post Medieval origin, although they are also similar in appearance to a field system of Late Prehistoric origin.
