Summary

The cropmarks of a possible Roman rectangular enclosed settlement with no entrances or internal features and associated ditches can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1973 and 2007. Numerous geological cropmarks make interpretation of this site difficult. It was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

Full Description

Two narrow linear features forming an obtuse angle, with fainter linears joining them at right angles. Difficult to interpret because of background noise so could just be field drains. (1) Cropmark of rectangular enclosed settlement with no internal features or entrance sited to TQ 7860 7340 from good quality air photographs. Interpreted as Roman (site no. KE 183.1.1) Cropmark of unknown feature - possible boundary ditch, sited to TQ 7862 7340 from good quality air photographs. Also interpreted as Roman (site no. KE 183.1.2) (2) The fragmentary cropmark remains of this site can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 2007. Numerous geological cropmarks make interpretation of this site difficult. It was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project
