Full Description

The following text is from the original listed building designation:
TR 2457 WINGHAM CANTERBURY ROAD
(south side) 9/338 Old Forge House 13.10.52 GV II*
House. C15. Timber framed and rendered with some red brick in English bond, with plain tiled roof. Two storeys with continuous jetty on brackets and hipped roof with gablets and stacks to rear. Three wooden casements ensuite to left and 3 glazing bar sashes on first floor and large canted bay and smaller canted bay to right on ground floor with door of 6 raised and fielded panels with moulded architrave to right. Fine C15 gateway to left with brick piers, four centred arched head and sunk spandrels. Right return with series of medieval mullioned windows. Timber frame exposed with plaster infill to inner courtyard and rear wing terminated with kneelered parapet gable. Interior; both wings of building have fine moulded crown post roofs. Reputedly part of Wingham College canons' houses. Attached to left a painted brick lean-to with large folding half glazed doors marked Kent Fire Brigade, used for the horse drawn vehicle.
