Listed Building record TR 35 SW 293 - CHURCH OF ST MARY

Summary

Grade II listed building. Main construction periods 1649 to 1899 St Mary's Church. Grade II* listed building. Originally of Norman, probably 12thC, of which the only remnants seems to be the zig-zag decorated arch over the north door of the nave, and a small mandorla under this with a carved blessing. The building was extensively rebuilt in 1853-4. The plan is basically a two-cell church with a north tower and a mathcing stubby transept on the south, and a south porch. The walls are of flint rubble with freestone dressings with a timber roof covered in old Kent clay tiles.
