NORTHBOURNE NORTHBOURNE -COURT TR 35 SW
4/30 Stable block within walled gardens, Northbourne Court
GV II
Stables and coachhouse. Early C17. Red brick in English bond with pantiled roof. One storey and attic on plinth with brick cornice to roof with central gabled dormer. Shaped gables, that to righta C19 imitation of the early C17 gable left. Triple segmental shaped gable with ovolo moulded coping. Front elevation with wooden casements with label hoods to left and 2 to right, with central multi-panelled door in semi-circular surround, and rib and stud door to right. Left return with moulded window surround to wooden casement in gable, and elliptically arched carriage entrance with large label hood. Right return with mullioned window and rib and stud door. From its position in line with the great gateway, this building may well have been part of the front courtyard of Sir Edwin Sandys great house, the precise site of which within the walled garden has not been determined.
