Full Description
Description from record TR 24 SE 37 :
(TR 275418) Stone barn at St Radegund's Abbey Farm about 65 metres south of Well House. Abbey Road, Hougham. Grade II*. Barn. C13 and C18. Rubble stone and flint, with C20 pantile roof. The barn may have been the great Guesthouse of the Premonstratensian Abbey of St. Radegund's. (1) [For full description see list]. Remains, flint walling with windows, of 13th century building; probably always barn. (2)
An archaeological evaluation of the area to the west of the barn in 2009 found foundations of a now demolished extension to the Stone Barn. It would have once been longer by 10m. These walls survived in part until the mid 20th century, when they were levelled but the evaluation showed that they survive just below current ground level (3).
