TR 25 NE STAPLE THE STREET
(North Side) 5/239 Group of 3 chest tombs and head- stone about 5-10 metres south of Church of St. James
GV II
Group of chest tombs and headstone to William Ferry. Two identical chest tombs, inscriptions illegible in both cases, date of death 1717 on more southerly, plain panelled sides and ends, with central and corner uprights enriched with skulls and crossed mortuary tools, with moulded base and plain, incised top slab. Margaret Terry, d.1713 and Ralph Terry, d.1732. Finely inscribed marble top slab on chest with raised and fielded uprights and enriched uprights with skulls and crossed mortuary tools. Headstone, William Terry, late C18. About 4 feet high, with smaller stone attached. Shouldered head with moulded, dentillated frieze on scrolled sides, with winged cherub head and bifurcated floriated decoration.
