Full Description

The following text is from the original listed building designation:
TR 24 SE ALKHAM SLIP LANE (east side) 4/20 Box Tree Cottage 27.8.52 (formerly listed as Cottage Box) GV II House, C17 and 1713 for George Slater Esq. Timber framed and clad with red brick and tile hanging, and extended with red brick. Plain tiled roofs. Main block: two storeys on plinth with boxed eaves to the valley roof on left with stack to end right. Regular fenestration of 3 glazing bar sashes on first floor and 2 to left on ground floor, all with rubbed and moulded brick heads, and with moulded brick aprons below first floor window. Door of 6 raised and fielded panels to right with semi-circular fanlight and pediment on pilaster surround. Three terracotta plaques over ground floor windows with Slater Coat of Arms and date 1713. The earlier portion to right is structurally separated from the C18 wing. One storey and attic with half-hipped roof and dormer. One glazing bar sash, 1 wooden casement and boarded door to right. Some framing studs are exposed.
