Findspot record TQ 83 NW 4 - Celtic gold ring, Bettenham Farm, Cranbrook

Summary

A gold finger ring of Celtic type was found in a field during ploughing in 1868. It was formed of two twisted gold wires, one thin and the other three times as thick and tapered at the ends. No subsequent discoveries have been made at this location. An urn containing bones had previously been found in a neighbouring field (TQ 83 NW 5). The ring may possibly be of Roman date but is clearly Celtic. The present location of this artefact is uncertain.
