The following text is from the original listed building designation:
2/33A Medieval undercroft at number 10 Bench Street
Medieval Undercroft, probably 13th century. Two linked stone chambers with external lancet window and wide chamfered pointed arch with remains of springing arch to left. INTERIOR: has similar arch at right angles dividing chambers and barrel vaulted ceiling. The circa 1840 house above ground level (Number 10 Bench Street) was destroyed in a fire in 1977 and subsequently demolished. Listing NGR: TR3198941283. (1)
The undercroft was fully excavated and recorded by Canterbury Archaeological Trust in 1991-1992 during works associated with the A20 road and sewer scheme.(2-4)
