EASTRY THE CROSS TR 3054 (east side) 12/124 The Five Bells 11.10.63 GV II
Public house. Circa 1700, altered early C19. Painted brick, in 'Minster' bond on ground floor, with plain tiled roof. Two storeys and attic on plinth with plat band. Roof hipped to right and half hipped to left with 2 hipped dormers and stacks to end left, centre left and end right. Five glazing bar sashes on first floor and 3 on ground floor with 2 tripartite glazing bar sashes either side of central double doorcases with pilaster surrounds and cornice, only the left with a glazed door, the other blocked. Basket arched heads to earlier blocked openings. The end right window bay is a later addition, with a small outshot. Interior; fine eariy C18 staircase with turned balusters on open string with dogleg and half landing plan.
