Full Description
Description from record TQ 67 SE 17:
[TQ 69207145] R.C. Chap.[T.U.] (Private) (1) St Katerine's Chapel was a chantry chapel. Originally measuring 18' x 17' internally, it was later extended westwards to 52'. The original, eastern, part is a good example of Decorated work of c.1330 but the extension is inferior work of c.1450 or later. It was suppressed as a chantry under the statute of Edward VI. In 1774 it was a malt-house and, until its purchase in 1890 by Mr. Arnold, served as a cow-shed. Plan photograph See AO/58/58/6. (2) St. Katherine's Chapel has been restored as it probably was in 1547. (3) [Add. ref.] (4) St. Katherine's Chapel (Notice Board) is in regular use as a place of worship and is part of the adjoining religious establishment, Corpus Christi Carmel. Description (Authority 2) correct. (5) No change. (6) Chapel of St Katherine. Grade II. 14th century eastern half, 15th century western half. Chantry chapel suppressed by Edward VI in 1545. In 18th century was in use as a malthouse. Restored as a chapel in 1890s. (7) Additional bibliography. (8-12)
