II
Chapel of the Street or Particular Baptists. 1845. Stock brick with cement dressings. Slate roof with pedimented gable ends.
Rectangular single cell plan with entrance at east end and Sunday School at the west end. Neo Classical style.
3-bay east end with brick pilasters with plain capitals supporting entablature with large moulded cement pediment with circular ventilator and plaques inscribed ZOAR CHAPEL in tympanum; panelled double doors with raised panel above in central bay and tall 15-pane sashes in flanking bays. 7-bay right hand return (north) with similar sashes with brick pilasters between supporting brick entablature on similar brick pilasters, the right hand part of gable recessed and with lean-to entrance. Lantern on ridge of Sunday School.
Interior: Plastered arcaded walls. Arch braced roof trusses on corbels with metal tie-rods. Panelled rostrum at west end with rail in front with cast-iron balustrade. Benches with shaped ends. Panelled internal porch at east end. Two wall tablets, one of which is to I.C Johnson, who was responsible for the plans and erection of the chapel. Johnson was a manufacturer of Portland cement and founder of the cement works at Greenhithe.
