2. Statue of Queen Victoria. 1897-98 by J Broad to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee. Presented by a former Mayor, Mr G M Arnold. Terracotta by Doulton of Lambeth. Standing statue in full regalia. Doulton's originally supplied a statue of Queen Victoria. Doulton's originally sent another statue which proved to be faulty and another, that now in Darnley Road was sent. The earlier statue in the Borough Market House is listed under Queen Street. Signed on plinth: J Broad/Sc. and: Doulton/Lambeth. Inscribed on front of pedestal: Victoria/Queen and/Empress/ 20 June 1837-1897 and on back: Presented /by/George Arnold/Mayor 1897/Grandson of/ George Arnold/Mayor 1797/Great Grandson of/Anthony Arnold/Mayor 1760.
