Listed Building record TQ 67 SW 1061 - No. 70 High Street (West side)

Summary

Grade II listed building. Main construction periods 1700 to 1975 Summary from record TQ 67 SW 230: Cutting the natural was a large semi-circular well with veritcal sides truncated to the west and north. The well was not fully excavated and contained silty sand and modern rubble. The east was a small circular cut with a diameter of 0.08m with vertical sides. The fill contaied modern glass and brick fragments. Possible stake hole which may have been part of a structure associated with the well. Summary from record TQ 67 SW 281: Beneath a brick-lined cellar (TQ 67 SW 280) associated with 70 High St a circular well shaft, 1 m in diameter, was recorded. It appeared to have been recently infilled. Its location suggests that it pre-dated the 1727 fire and was abandoned and slabbed over when replacement buildings were constructed.
