Monument record TQ 84 NE 7 - Roman cremation burial and bloomery slag

Summary

A 2nd century AD cremation burial was found in 1961 to the west of Potters Forstal. Romano-British pottery sherds including part of a Samian dish with most of the glaze missing, and a coarse globular jar of gritty grey ware. The jar contained calcined bones. A small quantity of bloomery slag was also found during a later search of an area subject to ploughing. All the finds are now held in store at Maidstone Museum.
