SUTTON VALENCE FORSHAM LANE TQ 84 NW (south side) Sparks Hall 5/128 26.4.68 GV II
Farmhouse. C15, with later alterations. Timber framed with plaster infilling except left end bay, which has painted brick ground floor and rendered first flour. Plain tile roof. Hall of 2 unequal-length bays. Separately-framed, storeyed addition to each end, that to left of 2 bays, unjettied and only slightly projecting; not framed as cross-wings. 2-storeys and attics on stone plinth. Hall close-studded, with deep cill towards base of left bay, and with full-height post subdividing right bay. 2 tension braces to right end bay. Hipped roof. Line of wall- plate of projecting bays continued over hall with boxed eaves. Multiple brick stack in left end of right hall bay. Large gabled dormer. Irregular fenestration of 5 casements; one small 2-light to left end, one 3-light to left end bay, one 4-light to left hall bay, one 2-light to right hall bay and one 3-light to right end bay. Blocked window with pegged cill to left of right hall bay. C20 ribbed door up 3 steps to right end of right hall bay. Lean-to to left. Interior: exposed framing. Gunstock jowls. Moulded central crown-post. Plain end-of-hall crown- posts. C17 panelling to left bay of hall.
