The following text is from the original listed building designation:
WEST FARLEIGH ST. HELENS LANE TO 75 SW (West side) 2/33 No. 1 (St. Helens corner), No. 2 (Midway Cottage) and Boundary Cottage II
House, now house row. C16, with later additions and C19 facade. Timber framed. Ground floor red and grey brick in Flemish bond, fishscale tiles to first floor. Plain tile roof. C16 house of 3 timber-framed bays, possibly storeyed throughout from beginning, and built at-right- angles to road, facing south. Later two-storey additions forming long wing running forwards from left (west) end of front elevation. Stone plinth to main range. 2 storeys. Gable ends of main range formerly jettied. Steeply-pitched hipped roof to main range, with gablet to right. Wing with higher eaves, and roof half-hipped to front. Multiple red brick ridge stack to right of centre of main range (to left end of right end bay), and slender projecting stack to right gable end. Wing has one brick stack to front gable end, one to long left side and Wing multiple red and grey brick stack towards junction with main range. Irregular fenestration of 4 windows; one two-light horizontally-sliding sash to main range, towards junction with wing, and three two-light casements to long right side of wing. Panelled door with flat bracketed hood to No. 1 to right side of wing towards front gable end, panelled door to No. 2, also to wing, under multiple brick stack, and panelled door to No. 3 under main range stack, both the latter doors with gabled open porches. Lean-to to long left side of wing. Interior: No. 3 partly inspected. Exposed framing. Broad, closely-spaced axial joists to end bays, with evidence for stair trimmer in each. Chamfered axial beam to central bay. Gunstock-jowled posts, and arch-braced tie-beams. Plain crown post with foot braces and plastered partition, to each end of central bay (rest of roof not inspected). Ground-floor fireplace with chamfered stone jambs and uncambered bressumer with hollow spandrels. Mortices and shutter-groove for three-light diamond mullion window to ground floor of left gable end.
