Full Description
[TQ 8438 4894] Moat [NR] (1) Lodge Close is a marshy wood containing the remains of a homestead moat and there small fishponds, a large marshy lake to the immediate south of the group probably represents a large fishpond of similar mediaeval date. The moat has been partly drained in recent years and only the N. and W. arms are water-filled and intact, the inner slopes of the other two arms remain but in a reduced condition. The entrance causeway was probably at the E. end of the N. arm. Resurveyed at 1/2500. (2) Checked and correct. (3) Additional bibliography. (4)(5)
