STAPLEHURST CLAPPER LANE TQ 74 SE (South-east side)
3/79 Barn about 50 metres South-East of Duckhurst Farmhouse

Barn, now store. Later C17. Timber framed, weatherboarded, with corrugated iron roof. 4 timber-framed bays, built at right-angles to road. Hipped roof. Low double doors to third timber-framed bay from left (east). C19 single-storey 2-bay addition to left. Interior: gunstock jowls to principal posts. Arch-braced tie-beams. Clasped purlin roof with scarcely-diminishing principal rafters. Re-used rafters from a lapped collar roof. Tension braces to walls. Edge-halved scarf-joints to wall-plates. Re-used posts and studding from a medieval building. C19 addition subdivided into 4 loose- boxes, with wooden feeding troughs. Included for group value.
