Full Description

The following text is from the original listed building designation:
SUTTON VALENCE LOWER ROAD TQ 8049-8149 [south side] 7/142 1 and 2 Motto Cottages GV II
House, now 2 cottages. C17 or earlier, with mid-to-late C19 alterations. Ground floor rendered, first floor hung with banded plain and fishscale tiles. Plain tile roof. Main range with short (probably later) wing projecting forwards to right end. 2 storeys. Roof half-hipped to left.Wing has higher eaves and roof half-hipped to street. Multiple brick ridge stack in front slope of roof to centre of main range. Irregular fenestration of four 12-pane glazing-bar sashes, 3 to main range, one to left side of wing. Panelled door to No. 1 beneath stack and to No. 2 up 2 steps to left side of wing. 3 small plaques to first floor bearing mottoes. 2-storey addition to left not included. Interior not inspected.
