Grade II* (see list for further details)  (2) Thatched House, large and early half-timbered. End- jettied and widely spaced uprights with a two-centred doorway of two giant baulks. (3)

The following text is from the original listed building designation:
1. 5272   SMARDEN   CAGE LANE       The Thatched House       (formerly listed as       Bridge House)   TQ 8742 23/100              14.2.67. II* 2. C15 2 bay hall-house. Timber-framed with plaster infillimg and curved brace on the first floor.  Two storeys. Hipped thatched roof.  Four casement windows with diamond-shaped or small square leaded panes.  A well restored example of a late mediaeval hall-house.
