Grade II listed building. Main construction periods 1850 to 1974. A new asylum for the chronic insane added to Oakwood Hospital in 1850. This was designed by John Whichcord and is a 2-storey building in ashlar. The ends date from 1867. A few minor alterations after this date were by Martin Bulmer

The following text is from the original listed building designation:
ST ANDREW'S ROAD 1. 5278 Queens House at Oakwood Hospital TQ 75 NW 8/170D II
2. Mainly 1850, but the ends date from 1867 and there are some later additions at the rear. 2 storeys ashlar. Now 2 buildings joined by modern infill. Hipped slate roof with moulded eaves cornice. Each part has 20 sashes with glazing bars intact, then a further portion of 3 bays with a hipped roof and then an end portion of 1867 having 7 sashes.
