GROVE LANE TQ 74 NW HUNTON (North Side) 4/79 Barn about 130 metres east of Southover GV II
Barn. C17, partly rebuilt in C20 after fire. Timber framed, weather- boarded, with plain tile roof. 5 timber-framed bays. Front and rear aisles. 3 left trusses (2 timber-framed bays) rebuilt in same style as right bays. Stone plinth. Half-hipped roof. Tall central half- hipped porch rising from aisle; weatherboarded, with central lath and daub panel, partly rebuilt. Tall central rear porch with tile-hung side walls above aisle and lath and daub gable end above doors. Upper section of gable end open and morticed for staves. Gable of porch jettied, with brackets under wall-plate ends and half-hipped roof above. Interior: jowled principal posts arch-braced to tie-beams. Eccentric braces to arcade plates. Curved passing shores to aisle, trenched past further curved braces from aisle ties to aisle rafters. Staggered butt purlins, collars, and vertical queen-struts to rafters. Some original studding. Clasped purlin roof to rear porch.
