COLLEGE ROAD (West Side) Nos 2 to 36 (even) (Cutbush Almshouses)

(Formerly listed as (Cutbush Almshouses) Nos 2 to 36 (even) MILL STREET)

GV II

Late C19 almshouses arranged in groups of three separate buildings on three sides of a courtyard. Nos 2-12 are of two storeys Kentish ragstone. Tiled roof with five clustered chimney stacks. Six gables having fretted bargeboards and pseudo timber-framing and brick finials. Central stone gable with stone finial and initials and kneelers. Windows are four light mullioned and transomed windows. Central stone archway with hood moulding above. Six other mullioned and transomed windows with hood moulding and two doorcases set in the arches. Nos 14-24 and Nos 26-36 are similar but without the central stone archway.

Gateway and Wall to Palace Gardens, Wall to north-west of Archbishop's Palace, The Archbishop's Palace, Wall to east of Archbishop's Palace, The Dungeons at the Archbishop's Palace, The Gate House at the Archbishop's Palace, The Len Bridge, The Tithe Barn, Parish Church of All Saints, Wall to north and west of All Saints Church, The College Gateway, The College Tower, The Masters House, The Master's Tower, Cutbush Almshouses and the Ruined Gateway form a group.

A desk-based assessment with archaeological impact assessment relating to Cutbush and Corrall Almshouses was complted in 2022 in advance of planned installation of water services and new ducting. (2)
