Summary

Anglo-Saxon bead found in a rabbit warren to the east of a sandpit, north of Ashford Road. The find was in Maidstone Museum in 1956. The site is midway down a steep, north-west facing slope of a sandy spur. OD 75-80m.

Full Description

[TQ 84015360] A/S bead from sandpit to N of Ashford Road before Park Gate Inn. Found in rabbit warren in hazelwood to E of pit. In Maidstone Museum 1956. Information from Mr. and Mrs. Loosely, 89c Vinters Park, Maidstone. [Rough sketch plan.] (1) The bead is not held by Maidstone Museum and no further information about it can be found. The Looselys were probably 'sqatters', many of whom were removed from Vinters Park about 1956, and all trace of them has been lost. (2)
