ULCOMBE KNOWLE HILL TQ 84 NE 6/186 Knowle Hill House 26.4.68 II
Farmhouse. Dated 1736, possibly with earlier core. Rear wing timber-framed, with coursed galletted stone to ground floor and tile-hung first floor. Front range yellowish brick with red brick dressings, in Flemish bond. Plain tile roof. Timber-framed range parallel to road, facing east, with 1736 block at right-angles to south. C18 range: 2 storeys and attics on brick plinth. Plat bands above ground and first floors, interrupted by 4 plain full-height brick pilasters which extend to top of plain low parapet. Hipped roof, right hip returning. Slightly projecting gable and stacks. 2 flat-roofed dormers. Regular 3-window front of segmental- headed 12-pane glazing-bar sashes; voussoirs to outer windows splayed, and to central window elliptical. Segmental-headed ground-floor windows. Central door of 3 fielded panels up 3 steps under shallow cut brick "hood". Dated SB over central 17 36 first-floor window. Rear return wing to right: 2 storeys on stone plinth. Gable end stack. Two broadly-spaced 12-pane glazing-bar sashes. Interior not inspected.
