GV II
House and shop row. Early C17, with later additions and early C19 facade. Central rear wing timber framed with rendered infilling. Ground floor of front elevation red and grey brick in Flemish bond, first floor tile-hung. Plain tile roof. Range fronting High Street, with long left return wing to Maidstone Road, and rounded corner. Long early C17 central rear wing adjacent to, but projecting beyond, left wing. Short wing at right-angles to centre of right side of central wing. Front range: 2 storeys. Roof hipped to rear of left wing and rounded to corner. Brick ridge stack towards left end of front range. Irregular fenestration of 6 windows; 2 twelve-pane sashes set lower than rest, towards rear of left wing, one two-light casement towards centre of left wing, and another to corner, and one four-pane and one sixteen-pane sash to front elevation. Half-glazed door towards rear of left wing, to the Woodstove Trading Company, half-glazed door with flat bracketed hood towards centre of left wing, to No.1, another to left wing towards corner, to Rose's, door of 6 fielded panels under stack and another to right end of Smeeton both with flat bracketed hoods. Central rear wing:gable end: 2 storeys and garret. Ground floor painted brick and render, first floor close-studded, with frieze of small square quadrant-braced panels flanking windows. Similar but larger panels to gable below collar, close-studding above. Moulded midrail or former jetty bressummer. Gable jettied on moulded bressummer and shaped brackets. Moulded bargeboards and pendant. Brick ridge stack towards centre of wing. Three-light first-floor window with evidence for oriel, and with two-light ovolo-moulded mullion frieze windows with diamond subsidiary mullions. Interior not inspected.
