Full Description
Some time ago a mud digger found a decorated pseudo-Samian bowl when digging mud from TWINNEY SALTINGS. From what he stated it is evident that the Upchurch potteries extended to these Saltings, as he has continually met with the usual layers of sherds and patches of red clay at the base of the alluvium. Stumps of trees are found in position. [See also TQ NE 2] (1). The Twinney Saltings are completely inundated at high tide and deep mud makes investigation impossible. There is no record of recent finds from the area. (2) Listed as possible pottery kiln site and/or saltings (information as authorities 1 and 2) (3). Additional references (4,5).
