The following text is from the original listed building designation:
ROCHESTER NEW ROAD TQ 7467 NW 12/179 Nos 5, 6 and 7 (The Dickens Hotel) GV II Former terrace of three houses, now an hotel. c.1840. Flemish bond gault brick, plain plaster details. Slate roof. 3 storeys with attics, 2 bays each. Ground floor of each house has one tripartite plate glass sash, first and 2nd floor 2 4-pane plate glass sashes. Ground floor Tuscan Doric verandah of 8 columns, forming 3 porches and one odd intermediate column, cornice and parapet. Rusticated quoins, rusticated first floor plat band, parapet and cornice. Single stack. Arched doors all replaced by plate glass doors; door to No 6 replaced completely as window. Long return to Nag's Head Lane with fuller Italianate details to openings. Completely plain right return.
