Full Description

The following text is from the original listed building designation:
ROCHESTER HIGH STREET TQ 7468 NW 7/115 No 51 24.10.50 GV II House with restaurant. Mainly mid C17 with early C18 facade. Grey brick with red brick dressings (to front); Kent tile roof with dormer. Single-depth front range with wing to rear the framing of the whole building largely intact. Front: 3 storeys; regular 3-window range. Parapet with stone coping and simple brick cornice band. Rubbed brick cambered window arches with keystones and stone sills; later C19 4-pane plate-glass horned sashes to upper floors. Ground floor stuccoed; doorway to left with panelled reveals, plain pilasters and moulded canopy; panelled door with rectangular overlight. Large early C19 shop window under moulded segmental arch with panelled pilasters. Lead rainwater head between Nos 51 and 53. Interior: fragment of C17 decorative work such as cornices; more probably survives concealed. A C17 4-light window in the wing with large chamfered mullions, is exposed in the side wall of the wing (1st floor): it contains some C19 coloured glass.
